Elizabeth Clifton issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Blue Shoe Last, on the Upper Ground, Southwark.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Southwark number 478; Obv inscription: ELIZABETH.CLIFTON.AT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A shoe last, BLEW (in Roman capitals above sign, in field); Rev inscription: VPER.GROVND.SOVTHWARK (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HER / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
