The Eagle and Child
Timothy Phelps issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Eagle and Child, in Tooley Street, Southwark.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Southwark number 460; Obv inscription: TIMOTHY.PHELPS.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = An eagle and child (in field); Rev inscription: IN.ST.TOOLIS.STREET.1665 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
