The Blue Boot
Isaac Cammock issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Blue Boot, in Jacob Street, Southwark.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Southwark number 275; Obv inscription: ISAAC / CAMMOCK / AT. BLEW / BOOT. IN / IACOB / STREET (in six lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: HIS HALF PENY 69 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The Cordwainers' arms, with crest of a boot (in field).
The arms of the Worshipful company of Cordwainers are: Azure a chevron or between three goats' heads erased argent horned and bearded (J. Bromley, The Armorial Bearings of the Guilds of London: a record of the heraldry of the surviving companies with historical notes; with...[illustrations] by Heather Child...(London, 1960).
