The Three Brushes
Robert Thornton, a haberdasher, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business next to the sign of the Three Brushes, in Southwark.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Southwark number 95; Obv inscription: ROB. THORNTON. HABERDASHR (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / R.E.T. (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials as bottom, in field); Rev inscription: NEXT. THE. THREE. BRVSHES (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = IN / SOVTH / WARKE / 1667 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).
