The Frying Pan
James Braithwaite issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Frying Pan, in Southwark.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Southwark number 14; Obv inscription: IAMES.BRATHWAIT.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A frying pan I.D.B. (triad of initials in Roman capitals around sign, in field); Rev inscription: IN.SOVTHWARKE.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
