The Salters' Arms
John Gibson issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Great Wood Street.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3520; Obv inscription: IOHN.GIBSON.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The Salters' arms (in field); Rev inscription: GREATE.WOOD.STRE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.M.G. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).

The arms of the Worshipful Company of Salters are: Party per chevron Azure and Gules three covered salts Argent garnished Or, the salt shedding on both sides of the salts Argent (J. Wood Street and Great Wood Street, lay south of Addle Street, in the ward of Cripplegate Within (now Cripplegate Ward), and the Ward of Farringdon Within, in the City of London.
