The Three Cloves
Thomas Hepworth, a chandler, issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Whitechapel, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3414A; Obv inscription: THOMAS.HEPWORTH (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Three cloves (in field); Rev inscription: IN.WHITE.CHAPPELL (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = CHAN / DLER (in two lines of Roman capitals, in field).
Whitechapel lay in Stepney, Middlesex; it is now part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
