The Bear
William Ballet, a salter (someone who's trade involved the use of salt and working with chemicals for use in food), issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the White Bear, in Whitechapel, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3386; Obv inscription: WILL.BALET.SALTER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A bear (in field); Rev inscription: WHIT.BARE.WHIT.CHAP (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.M.B. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
