The Lion Coffee House
Richard Lyon issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Warwick Lane.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3363; Obv inscription: Richard / Lyon.in / Warwick / Lane (in four lines of cursive script, in field); Rev inscription: HIS.HALF.PENY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A lion rampant, holding a coffee pot (in field).
Warwick Lane runs south off Newgate Street, in Castle Baynard Ward, and the ward of Farringon Within, in the City of London.
