The Sugar Loaf
Edward Dennis issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business near the King's Wardrobe.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3356; Obv inscription: EDWARD.DENNIS.1666, a sugar-loaf (in three lines of Roman capitals with sign between date, in field); Rev inscription: NEARE.THE.KINGS.WARDROBE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
The King's Wardrobe (a branch of the Exchequer), lay between St Andrews' Hill, and Addle Hill (area now Kings Wardrobe Apartments), in Castle Baynard Ward, in the City of London.
