The Pair of Shears
John Taylor, a tailor, issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business on Wapping Wall, in Wapping, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3345; Obv inscription: IOHN.TAYLER.VPON (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A hand holding a pair of shears (in field); Rev inscription: WAPING.WALE.TAYLER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.E.T. (triad of initials, in Roman capitals).
Wapping Wall runs north-east of Garnet Street, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, it was previously part of Stepney, Middlesex.
