The Cock
Arthur Philpot issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Cock Alley, in Wapping, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3329; Obv inscription: ARTHVR. PHILLPOT. IN. COCKE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: ALLEY.IN.WAPPING.1667 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A.M.P. (reversed P) (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
