The Fleur de Lis
Anthony Phillips issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at New Stairs, in Wapping, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3328; Obv inscription: ANTHONY.PHILLIPS.AT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A fleur-de-lis (in field); Rev inscription: NEW.STARES.IN.WAPPIN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A.A.P. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).

Wapping New Stairs, were stairs running down to the Thames, which lay in Wapping, Middlesex; the area is now part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
