The Man in the Moon
This trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the Man on the Moon, in Wapping, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3301; Obv inscription: AT.THE.MAN.IN.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A man standing within a crescent moon (in field); Rev inscription: MOVN.IN.WAPING.1652 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.E / GAVNT (in two lines of Roman capitals, in field).
