The Swan
William Butcher issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at One Wapping Wall, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3283; Obv inscription: WILLIAM.BVTCHER.ONE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: WAPPINGE.WALL.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A swan (in field).
Wapping Wall runs north-east of Garnet Street, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, it was previously part of Stepney, Middlesex.
