The Naked Boy
Mathew Awstan issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at One Wapping Wall, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3273; Obv inscription: MATHEW.AWSTAN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A boy holding a pipe (in field); Rev inscription: ONE.WAPING.WALL (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = M.E.A. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Wapping Wall runs north-east of Garnet Street, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, it was previously part of Stepney, Middlesex.
