The Tallow Chandler

This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued by a tallow chandler (candle maker), or at a business by the sign of a tallow chandler, in Temple Bar within, City of London.

Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3063; Obv inscription: THE.TALLOW.CAHANDLER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A chandler (in field); Rev inscription: WITHIN.TEMPLE.BARR (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = R.S.R. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
