The Hand and Shears
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued for a business at the sign of the Hand and Shears, in Staining Lane.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2942; Obv inscription: THE.HAND.AND.SHEERS (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A hand holding a pair of scissors (in field); Rev inscription: IN.STAYNING.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.T.T. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Staining Lane lies in Aldersgate Ward and the ward of Cripplegate Within (now Cripplegate Ward), in the City of London.
