The KIng's Head Tavern
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the King's Head tavern, at Spittlegate.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2938; Obv inscription: AT.THE.KINGS.HEAD (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Bust of Charles I (in field); Rev inscirption: TAVERN.AT.SPITLEGATE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = T.S.A. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Spittlegate as a location is unclear, Boyne records it as being a london token, which may mean it was a name used for the city gate in the area of Spitalfieds, Stepney, Middlesex (now London Borough of Tower Hamlets), howver it may be that the token was issued at Spittlegate, Lincoln.
