Post-Medieval — Mid 17th century; 1648-1673; 1666
Unknown
Robert Fletcher issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Smithfield Rounds (Smithfield Pens?).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2855; Obv inscription: Robert / Fletcher / his.halfe / penny (in four lines of cursive script, in field); Rev inscription: In / Smithfeild / Rounds / 1666 (in four lines of cursive script, in field).
The area known as Smithfield Rounds at this time is uncertain, it may be that it refers to Smithfield Pens, buildings housing the pens for sheep and cattle, at Smithfield Market, in the ward of Farringdon Without, in the City of London.
