The Crown
Joseph Brookes issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Smithfield Rounds (Smithfield Pens?).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2842; Obv inscription: IOSEPH.BROOKES.IN.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A crown (in field); Rev inscription: ROVNDS.IN.SMITHFEILD (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
