The Tallow Chandlers' Arms
Richard Burmby issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Salisbury Court.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2738; Obv inscription: RICHARD.BVRMBY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The Tallowchandlers' arms (in field); Rev inscription: IN.SALSBVRY.COVRTE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = R.M.B. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The arms of the Worshipful Company of Tallow Chandlers are: On a field of six pieces of azure and argent three doves argent membered gules, each holding in its beak an olive branch (J. Bromley, The Armorial Bearings of the Guilds of London: a record of the heraldry of the surviving companies with historical notes; with...[illustrations] by Heather Child...(London, 1960).
