The Bear, Bull and Horse

William Emet issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in St Swithin's Lane.

Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2733; Obv inscription: WM. EMET. IN. ST. SWITHENS. LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev device: A bear, a bull and a horse (in field).

St Swithin's Lane runs south off King William Street, to Cannon Street, in Walbrook Ward, in the City of London; at the time of issue the street ran further north in to Langbourn ward, but this portion was demolished for the creation of King WIlliam Street in 1832, see Henry A.
