The Old Coffee House
Stephen Hayward and George Backler issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for their business in St Michael's Alley, Cornhill Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2695; Obv inscription: STEPH. HAYWARD. GEO. BACKLER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A hand pouring coffee into a cup (in field); Rev inscription: At. the / old. Coffee / house. in. St. / Michells. Ally / formerly. 1/2 / Bomans (in six lines of cursive script, in field).
