The Man in the Moon
William Holden issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Man on the Moon, in St Martin's, Aldersgate.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2646; Obv inscription: WILLIAM. HOLDEN. AT. YE. IN. ST (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A man in a crescent moon (in field); Rev inscription: MARTINS.NEERE.ALDERSGATE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
