Thomas Ely issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in St Martin's.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2634; Obv inscription: THOMAS.ELY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A castle gateway (in field); Rev inscription: IN.ST.MARTINES (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).

The exact location of issue for this token is uncertain; it may be St Martin's Lane or St Martin le Grand, in Aldersgate Ward, in the City of London, or it may have be St Martin's in the Fields, which lay i Westminster, Middlesex, and is now part of the City of Westminster.
