The Three Tongues
Thomas Clark issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in St Clement's Lane (now Clement's Lane), Eastcheap.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2453; Obv inscription: THO.CLARK.IN.ST.CLEMENS (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Three tongues (in field); Rev inscription: LANE.IN.EASTCHEAP (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = T.S.C. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
St Clement's Lane ran south from Lombard Street to Cannon Street; part was later removed for the formation of King William, where the street, now Clement's Lane, ends, in Candlewick Ward, in the City of London, see Henry A. Harben, A Dictionary of London (London, 1918).
