The White Horse
WIlliam Evered issued this trade token, worth a half penny, at the White Horse tavern, in Rosemary Lane.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2401; Obv inscription: WILLIAM. EVERED. AT. YE. WHIT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A horse saddled and bridled, 1669 (date above sign, in field); Rev inscription: HORSE. IN. ROSEMARY. LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / W.E.E. (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials as bottom, in field).
The road from which this trade token was issued is unclear; it may be Rosemary Lane, which was situated in the ward of Farringdon Without, in the City of London, but the location of which is now lost, or, it may refer to Rosemary Lane (now Royal Mint Street), in Portsoken Ward, in the City of London, the area having historically been part of Stepney, Middlesex.
