The Queen's Head
John Cannon issued this trade token, worth farthing, for his business in Queen's Street.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2315; Obv inscription: IOHN.CANNON.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Bust of Catherine of Braganza (in field); Rev inscription: QVEENS.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.S.C. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
See also, NN18107, in the museum collection. Cathrine of Braganza married King Charles II, in 1662, dating this token to after that time. See also token numbers 7507a and 7507b in the Sylloge of Coins of the British Isles, 59, The Norweb Collection: Tokens of the British Isles 1575-1750, Part VII - City of London. The token must have been issued after the Great Fire of London, in 1666, as it was only at this time that the street was built, see Henry A. Harben, A Dictionary of London (London, 1918). Queen Street, runs south off Cheapside, in Vintry Ward, Cheap Ward and Cordwainer Ward, in the City of London.
