The Three Cranes Tavern
George Twine issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business, the Three Cranes tavern, in Poultry, Cheap Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2278; Obv inscription: GEORGE.TWINE.1665 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Three cranes standing (in field); Rev inscription: IN.THE.POVLTREY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
The issuer was, George Twine of St Mary Woolnoth, Vintner at the Three Cranes tavern until 1666, see see Percival Boyd, [Inhabitants of London]. Society of Genealogists, MS. 2439.
