The White Hart
Hugh Looe issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the White Hart tavern, in Postern Street (the Postern).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2271; Obv inscription: HVGH.LOOE.AT.YE.WHITE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A hart lodged, H.E.L. (triad of initials above right of sign, in field); Rev inscription: IN.POSTERNE.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY [Boyne has 1666] (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
