Robert Williams issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in the Postern, at Moorfields.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2270; Obv inscription: ROBERT. WILLIAMS. AT. YE. MOORE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Four plots of land (in field); Rev inscription: FEILDS.IN.YE.POSTERNE.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
The Postern, lay at the west end of Petty France (now New Broad Street), leading in to Moorfields, see John Strype's Survey of London (London, 1720), as cited in Henry A. Harben, A Dictionary of London (London, 1918).
