The Leg
Thomas Foot issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Leg (the sign relating to the issuers name), in New King Street (King Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889)reference London number 2044; Obv inscription: THOMAS.FOOTE.AT.THE.LEG (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A leg (in field); Rev inscription: IN.NEW.KING.STREETE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
New King Street, now King Street, runs to the north from Cheapside to the Guildhall, it was constructed to provide better access to the Guildhall (Henry A. Harben, A dictionary of London (London, 1918)); it lies in Cheap Ward, in the City of London.
