George Cox issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the Two Cocks, in Minories, Portsoken Ward, City of London. The sign is representative of the issuers surname.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1917; Obv inscription: GEORGE.COX.AT.THE.2 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A man dipping candles (in field); Rev inscription: COKS.IN.THE.MINORIES (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = G.E.C. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
