The Whitingtons Cat
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the sign of Dick Whittington's Cat, in Long Lane.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1822; Obv inscription: AT.WHITINGTONS.CAT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A cat (in field); Rev inscription: IN.LONG.LANE.57 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.M.M. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Long Lane, Smithfield, lies in Aldersgate Ward and the ward of Farringdon Without, in the City of London.
