The Three Tuns
John Greenhill issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Long Alley, Moorfields.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1809; Obv inscription: IOHN.GREENEHILL.IN.LONG (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Three tuns (in field); Rev inscription: ALLEY.IN.MOREFEILDES (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / 1671 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).

Long Alley, was part of Moorfields. The Moorfields were the last open pieces of land in the City of London. After the Great Fire of London refugees from the Fire set up homes here. Though intended to be temporary it is not known how many people went on to establish permanent premises here. Moorfields lies in Coleman Ward, in the City of London.
