The Turk's Head
Thomas North issued this trade token, worth a penny, for his coffee house, situated against the East India House in Leadenhall Street.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1674; Obv inscription: THO. NORTH. AGIN. YE. EST.INDIA (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A Turk's head (in field); Rev inscription: HOVS.IN.LEDEN.HALL.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / PENNY / 1669 (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
