Nathaniel Gardner issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Unicorn in Leadenhall Street.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1664; Obv inscription: NATHANIELL.GARDNER.AT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = a cock and a unicorn (in field); Rev inscription: IN.LEADENHALL.STRETE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
The issuer was Nathaniel Gardner, an apothecary.
