The Head of John the Baptist
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued for a business at the sign of St John the Baptist's Head, in Lad Lane (now Gresham Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1630A; Obv inscription: AT.THE.S.IOHN.BAPTIS (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A head on a plate (in field); Rev inscription: HEAD.IN.LAD.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = E.I.A. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
