The Chequerboard
William Osman, a corn chandler, issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Ivy Lane.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1557; Obv incription: WILLIAM.OSMAN.CORNE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = chequer-board (in field); Rev inscription: CHANDLER.IN.IVEY.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.O (in field, in Roman capitals).

Ivy Row ran north from Paternoster Row, towards Aldgate street, lying within the ward of Farringdon Within, in the City of London. It now lies in Bread Street Ward.
