The White Horse
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the sign of the White Horse, in Houndsditch.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1512; Obv inscription: AT.THE.WHIT.HORS.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A horse galloping (in field); Rev inscription: HOVNDICH.NEA.AL.GATE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = L.E.H. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Houndsditch historically lay within Portsoken Ward and the ward of Bishopsgate Without, in the City of London. It now lies in Portsoken Ward, and Aldgate Ward, in the City of London.
