The Red Cow
Matthew Bayley, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business, at the Red Cow tavern, near Holborn Conduit.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1366; Obv inscription: MATT. BAYLY. AT. YE. RED. COW (around field, in roman capitals) Device = A cow (in field); Rev inscription: NEAR.HOLBORN.CONDVIT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = M.T.B. / ½ (triad of initials in Roman capitals with ½ below, in field).
