John Meares issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the White Lion, in Guildhall Yard.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1298; Obv inscription: IOH.MEARES.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A lion rampant (in field); Rev inscription: IN.GVILDEHALL.YA (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.A.M. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Guildhall Yard, lies in Cheap Ward, in the City of London.
