The White Lion
Thomas Threlkeld, a grocer, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the White Lion, in Grub street (now Milton Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1294; Obv inscription: HIS.HALFE.PENNY.AT.YE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Thomas / Threlkeld / Grocer (in three lines of cursive script, in field); Rev inscription: WHITE.LION.IN.GRVB.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A lion rampant (in field).
