The Black Bull
William Payne issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the Black Bull tavern, in Green Yard (area off Lime Street, Leadenhall).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1275; Obv inscription: WILL.PAYNE.AT.THE.BLACK (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A bull (in field); Rev inscription: IN.THE.GREENE.YARD (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
