The Malt Shovel
John Wedell, issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the Malt Shovel, in Great Garden, St Katherine's (area now St Katherine's Docks), Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1263; Obv inscription: IOHN.WEDELL.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A malt-shovel (in field); Rev inscription: IN.GREAT.GARDEN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.K.W. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).

Great Garden, St Katherine's was demolished in 1827, for the construction of St Katherine's Docks. The area is now part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
