The Shovel and Shears
William Chishull issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Great Garden, St Katherine's (area now St Katherine's Docks), Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1261; Obv inscription: WILLIAM.CHISHVLL (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A malt-shovel (in field); Rev inscription: IN.GREAT.GARDING (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A pair of shears (in field).
Great Garden, St Katherine's was demolished in 1827, for the construction of St Katherine's Docks. The area is now part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
