James Waters issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at Grey Friar's Gate (site of current Merrill Lynch International building).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1232; Obv inscription: IAMES.WATERS.AT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A friar (in field); Rev inscription: GRAYE.FRIARS.GATE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.A.W. (triad of initials im Roman capitals, in field).
