The Rainbow
Anthony Moslye issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Rainbow, in Grey Friars (site of current Merrill Lynch International building).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1229; Obv inscription: ANTHONY.MOSLYE.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A rainbow and A.E.M. (triad of initials in Roman capitals with sign above, in field); Rev inscription: GRAY.FRYERS.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
Grey Friars (site of current Merrill Lynch International building), off Newgate Street, is in the ward of Farringdon Within, in the City of London.
