The Winged Lion
Edward Phipps issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Winged Lion, in George Yard, King Street, Westminster, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1148; Obv inscription: EDWARD. PHIPPS. HIS. HALF. PENY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A winged lion running (in field); Rev inscription: IN.GEORG.YARD.WESTMINSTER (around field, in Roman capitals, in field) Device = E.A.P. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
